Band Placement List

In an effort to get caught up on all the student news we are combining band placement into one news item.

  • Chris Alexander is now 3rd chair in the second band, making him the highest ranking seventh grade trumpet player at his school.
  • Kathryn Beazley made the Wind Ensemble this year as a Sophomore.
  • Milton Cousins made the second band as a freshman at his high school.
  • Alex Lewis made the Wind Ensemble. Last year, Alex performed as the Wind Ensemble's pianist, but won a spot this year in the ensemble's trumpet section.
  • Jeffrey Stone moved up to the second band at his school.
    • The names of the schools have been intentionally omitted to protect the students' privacy.

Mr. Lewis has been performing with Lex Valk, Mary's husband, since the early 1990's. You can hear them together on a recording made by the Tom Borling Bebop Band. Aside from performing in Tom Borling's band, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Valk have done a great many freelance jobs together over the years.

Living Rhythms is one of at least ten bands set to perform at the event. The lineup includes:

  1. The Northside Jam Session Bunch
  2. Henry Darragh
  3. Tianna Hall

Houston Connections

Houston Connections

We will be adding a new area to this site called "Houston Connections". The purpose of the new area is to share some of the inside scoop that Mr. Lewis is privy to as an active member of Houston's music community. This will give his students (and other visitors to the site) more information about what's going on, musically, in Houston. The release date for this new area is set for 1 September.

Daily Routines - Light
Virtual Book Signing

Daily Routines - Light, Virtual Book Signing

In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the original publication of Daily Routines, we are releasing a new, abbreviated version of the book specifically designed to meet the needs of those who have limited practice time. All of the routines in the "Light" version of the book can be executed within fifteen to twenty minutes.

Eddie Lewis teaches that trumpet students should spend at least fifty percent of their practice time working on literature. With the new routines, students who only have thirty minutes to practice can get a full routine done in the first half of their practice session and spend the rest of their time practicing music.

For years, Mr. Lewis has been teaching his students how to modify the Daily Routines book to adjust to any scheduling concerns. He stresses how important it is to never skip any of the sections of the routine. Students should abbreviate those sections instead of skipping them. With the new version of the book, the need to abbreviate the routines no longer exists.

The new "Light" version of the Daily Routines will be available on 15 Oct 2010. Anyone who purchases a copy on that date will receive an autographed copy with the option of adding a personalized message. Please return to this site later as more details are made available.
